On December 20, 2024, the Indian Air Force conducted a successful casualty evacuation operation in Zuluk, Gangtok, and rescued 10 personnel from SSB.

At 1115h on December 20, 2024, the Indian Air Force received information about the accident of a bus carrying SSB personnel in Zuluk near Gangtok. In less than an hour, the Indian Air Force launched three helicopters (two Cheetah and one Mi17) from Bagdogra Air Base and evacuated 10 SSB personnel from the Zuluk helipad, which is located at 9000 feet in extreme weather conditions. The Indian Army also launched helicopters for the evacuation, further demonstrating the bravery and skill of our military personnel.

The Indian Air Force remains actively involved in Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations throughout the year in the Northeast Region.

The quick response by the Indian Air Force and Indian Army played a crucial role in casualty evacuation, which highlights the effectiveness of military coordination in emergency situations.
