Indian Coast Guard Rescues 12 Crew with Pakistan’s Crucial Support

Indian Coast Guard Rescues 12 crew members in Coordination with Pakistan

On 04 December 2024, the Indian Coast Guard rescued 12 crew members of the sunken Indian vessel MSV Al Piranpir from the North Arabian Sea. The Indian Coast Guard carried out this search and rescue mission in collaboration with the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA), and both nations’ maritime rescue coordination centers (MRCCs) maintained continuous communication.

The vessel Al Piranpir departed from Porbandar en route to Bandar Abbas, Iran. Reportedly, it sank due to rough seas in the morning hours of December 4, 2024, and flooding. Indian Coast Guard’s Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC), Mumbai, received the distress call and alerted the Indian Coast Guard Regional Headquarters in Gandhinagar. Indian Coast Guard Ship Sarthak was immediately diverted to the reported location. ICGS Sarthak deployed for forward area patrolling proceeded to the place and conducted the search operation. The 12 crew members were located and rescued approximately 270 km west of Dwarka, within Pakistan’s Search and Rescue Region. This search was supported by a Pakistan MSA aircraft and the merchant ship MV Cosco Glory.

The Indian Coast Guard’s prompt and coordinated response underscores its unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives at sea. This daring rescue operation showcases the ICG’s capabilities and readiness to address regional maritime emergencies. 

The rescued crew members were examined by the medical team on board ICGS Sarthak and were reported to be in good health. They are being transported back to Porbandar Harbour, Gujarat. The Indian Coast Guard has once again demonstrated its dedication to protecting lives at sea, living up to its motto, “वयं रक्षामः We Protect.”
