The 7th edition of Exercise SHAKTI between India and France was conducted at Umroi, Meghalaya, India between 13-26 May 2024. Exercise SHAKTI 2024 was focused on enhancing joint operational capabilities in mountainous and semi-urban environments. This exercise underscored the growing strategic partnership between the two nations.
SHAKTI is a biennial event, alternating between India and France. The previous edition was held in France in November 2021.
Key Participants of Exercise SHAKTI 2024
- India: A contingent of 90 personnel, primarily from the Rajput Regiment, alongside representatives from other branches and services. Additionally, observers from the Indian Navy and Air Force were present.
- France: A contingent of 90 personnel, predominantly from the 13th Foreign Legion Half-Brigade (13th DBLE).
Exercise Objectives of SHAKTI 2024
- Foster interoperability between Indian and French forces to facilitate seamless cooperation during multi-domain operations.
- Align with the “Horizon 2047 Roadmap,” a strategic framework guiding India-France relations for the next 25 years.
- Enhance combat readiness for scenarios envisaged under Chapter VII of the United Nations Mandate, focusing on unconventional warfare.
Focus Areas
- Tactical drills simulating responses to terrorist actions, including the establishment of joint command and intelligence centers, securing landing zones, and conducting special operations.
- Sharing best practices in tactics, techniques, and procedures for joint operations.
- Optimizing physical fitness and refining tactical-level drills.
- Employing and countering unmanned aerial vehicles (drones).
