BEML and MDL signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the research and development of advanced marine technologies on 26 November 2024 at BEML’s Delhi office. CMD of BEML, the Director (Shipbuilding) of MDL, and senior officials from both organizations attended the signing ceremony.

Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) is a prominent shipbuilder. MDL has delivered more than 800 vessels since the 1960s, including Destroyers, Frigates and Submarines.

Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) is the second-largest manufacturer of earth-moving equipment. It is specialised in manufacturing heavy equipment for various sectors, including mining, construction, railways, and defence. Over the years, BEML Ltd has established robust research capabilities across diverse domains, including platform designs for heavy defence utility vehicles, missile systems and modernization of defence systems.

By combining BEML’s proven engineering expertise with MDL’s deep knowledge of shipbuilding, the partnership seeks to capitalize on emerging opportunities in the marine sector and contribute to India’s vision of “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” and technological self-reliance in critical defence technologies. MDL will provide dedicated facilities to BEML’s research team for the development, testing, and validation of innovative technologies and systems.

The main focus of this partnership is to develop cutting-edge technologies for marine applications by collaborating with BEML’s engineering expertise and MDL’s Ship Building capabilities.
